There’s something magical about competing “under the lights”. Cross Country runners don’t get too many “Friday Night Lights” experiences during their career…so they better make the best of it when they get a chance! While our Varsity teams still were not at full strength, our runners definitely turned up the heat when the temperatures went down…and many previous PRs went down in flames as a result! Many of the top programs in the CIF Southern Section competed in this meet, so this meet served as an early test to see where our teams stand! Our boys turned in 11 “lifetime” PR performances and our girls had 7 of them! That means 18 out of 23 athletes ran PRs! Check out our “running results” page for more specific time and finish information!
Our Girls team was led by Kalista Tibbels who ran a 40-second PR of 18:19! She was followed by Elena Umana (11) with a 23-second PR of 18:36 and Soleil Russo (10) with a whopping 1:53 PR at 19:43! Helena Valdez (12) and Teresa Rangel (12) rounded out the top 5 running 19:56 and 19:57 (PR), respectively! Great job ladies!!!
What a crazy night! Not a single member of our boys team had a bad (or even mediocre) race! There were some crazy-good times ran this evening with some runners getting PRs of around 2 minutes (Hello Conner Clark (12): 2:02 and Isaac Umana (10): 1:52)!!! Our top finisher was Isaac Umana with a blazing 15:38. He was followed by Justin Bartlebaugh (12) 15:45PR, and Andrew Carlson (12) at 16:23PR! Freshman Mark Ybarra (17:04) and senior Zach Sawley (17:05) rounded out the top 5 finishers!
Our runners are looking great heading into our first Ivy League meet this coming Wednesday (9/12). Train hard, hydrate, eat well, sleep well, and be ready to take on the rest of our new league rivals!!!
