Multiple Teams · Inland Valley League Finals Showcases Poly Talent and Depth

On a day that would decide league champions, CIF participants, who leaves it all on the course and who leaves with a bad taste in their mouth, Poly athletes turned in 26 PRs and several “near misses”! It was a day of many victories and a few disappointments for our Poly runners who, for most of the team, called this meet the end of the 2017 season. Our seniors were honored with posters designed by their teammates and months of hard work and miles of running were poured out on to the old Riverside Golf Course that now serves as the Riverside Cross Country Course. After this race, only those moving on to CIF Prelims will continue to practice hard while chasing their goal of advancing to finals.

Final 2017 Team Results:

Boys Varsity: While our varsity squad finished 2nd and 3rd in our two previous meets, on this day, we lined up to race missing our #2 and #5 runners due to injury and illness. The goal was to finish 3r_DSC0949d (no worse than 4th) and qualify for CIF Prelims. While the boys ran hard, they ultimately finished in 4th place. Valley View surprised North by finishing in the #2 spot, thus creating a tie with Poly for 3rd place. Since IVL Finals serves as the “tiebreaker” for CIF seeding, our boys team ended up with the #4 seed and out of CIF. Senior Lerenzo Gipson did finish 4th overall and will run at CIF Prelims as an individual. Top performers include: Lerenzo Gipson (12), Michael Utterback (12), Nick Valencia (11), Parker Moore (12), Nick Ayala (11), and Isaac Umana, (9).
